Tabletop Gallery 2008
"Violet Urban Landscape"
Special Events Magazine - May 2008
Written by Natasha Garber
As featured at the 2008 Special Event Tradeshow in Atlanta, GA, Mosaic's Violet Urban landscape design earned recognition at the Tabletop Gallery for the $1,000 and Above Each category in the May 2008 issue of Special Events Magazine.
"With precise detail and expansive imagination, innovative designers created entire worlds atop tables for the 2008 Tabletop Gallery at the Special Event in January in Atlanta. From green scenes to urban dreams, from geisha allure to finding the cure, the creative teams behind the themes reveal how they crafted their terrific tablescapes."
"Mosaic is often asked to create designs for affairs that are current and cutting-edge for a younger, fashion-forward and well-heeled crowd," says the company's Susie Perelman. In response, her tabletop featured sleek reflective surfaces and modern angles. The design included hand-pleated pewter dupioni silk skirting with amethyst overlays and pewter raw silk napkins accented by purple thread trim. Table settings included white square plates and Riedel's hip "O" wineglasses. Perelman added sleek sheets of glass that "seamlessly supported a linear arrangement of black calla lilies, purple roses and Vanda orchids." "Mirror shards and dangling cut crystal add to the lush raw silks and jewel-encrusted overlays," she notes.

"Thanksgiving Tableaux"
Whirl Magazine - Infuse Your Thanksgiving Celebration with Style
Susie Perelman, owner of Mosaic, collaborates with Kristen Nolte, of All Occasions Party Rental, in Whirl Magazine's November 2007 feature article "Table Talk," styling a richly embellished Thanksgiving table, and offer tips for setting an autumn table in style. Take inspiration from the sumptuous table set to style your own inviting setting with Mosaic's luxurious linens.
Borrow Nature's Color Palette
"Autumn in Western Pennsylvania presents a visual landscape filled with color," Perelman says. "Home celebrations can pick up on these themes by using cloths and flowers that are rich with color and texture. Berry colored tablecloths, coupled with chocolate, copper and bronze are among our most popular this season."
Make it Metallic
"Metallics are hot in linens this year, plus gold-trimmed glassware, plates and gold flatware add to the theme," Perelman says.
Mix up the Glassware
"A mix of different types of glassware patterns is becoming a new trend," Nolte says.
Keep the Centerpiece Simple
"Candelabras are a classic for Thanksgiving, but if you are putting a turkey in the center of the table, you don't really need a lot of frills," Nolte says. "However, an arrangement of harvest fruits, vegetables and greenery, can bring fall color to the table."
Spread the Light with lots of Candles
"Having a lot of candles on the table works for any occasion," Nolte says. Perelman echoes her sentiment. "Wax pillar candles in olive, ochre, and rust will complete the look, adding sparkle and warmth to your celebration."

"a moveable feast"
At Home with Jennifer Magazine
Take the guesswork out of place settings for Thanksgiving events and home parties. Start a new tradition - affordable rental linens, with delivery and easy clean-up. Mosaic collaborates with All Occasions Party Rental in the October/November 2007 issue of At Home with Jennifer to style the featured table setting.
Is planning Thanksgiving table decor stressing your pocket book? Relax, it's less expensive than you think to rent all the fixin's. "For just $17.50, a client could rent a tablecloth and 10 napkins. A lap length cloth for a dining room table starts at $10, and is available in 65 different color choices. Basic chair cushions start at $2, featured wheat lamour covered cushions cost $6.50 each." Create a layered look to add flair to the table. As featured, Mosaic's iridescent crush tablecloth is paired perfectly with a round chenille taffeta stripe. Napkins with cotton lamour backing are $4 each. "We also offer cotton napkins with threaded trim for $1.35," says Mosaic owner Susie Perelman, "for just $1.35 you can get a nice quality napkin with design to it."
"Our company caters to a full spectrum of linen needs," says Perelman, "we do parties that range from one table cloth and four napkins to a cast of thousands, literally. Clients can pick up linens directly from the showroom, or Mosaic can take care of delivery right to your home or event, and set up the tables for you." Clean up is easy too, at Mosaic, there's no cleaning fee and clients need only return their linens in the bags provided.

"Trading Spaces"
Whirl Magazine
The greatest challenge in party planning is vision: taking raw space and creating something out of nothing. Susie Perelman, owner of Mosaic, is surveyed by Whirl Magazine in the Special Event Feature Series "Trading Spaces" regarding her favorite techniques for creating the ultimate ambiance.
"The collaborative effort is always the best solution because an event can't be done with one vendor, one item alone. If you're going to color block, you start with the floor treatment, and move to the table cloth, to the chair treatment, to the china, to the glassware, to the florals, to the lighting gels. Multiple vendors work on the same concept so that it works cohesively. The design team creates a concept from the front of the room to the back, and there has to be an evolution of energy: You move from cocktail-hour mood to pumped up lights and music and into a softer, sexier, slinkier, lounge-y feel. The most successful parties aren't about a specific color or theme or space; they are about what you do to transform the space over the course of the event."

"Let There Be Light"
Whirl Magazine
Whirl features Pittsburgh's event trendsetters and idea moguls in its August 2007 Special Event Feature Series "Let There Be Light."
"Keeping with the explosion in lighting trends, even linens and fabrics get in on the game, from metallic and iridescent crush table linens that reflect light, to huge panels of luxe fabrics that take the place of pipe and drape. Susie Perelman, owner of Mosaic, says that her company has provided curtain-like backdrops in a variety of colors that act as a milieu for light projections." Per Perelman, lighting, until recently has been undervalued. "Lighting is definitely a critical component of event planning," Perelman says. "Years ago people didn't want to spend money on it because they didn't think it was worthwhile, but it's imperative and adds an overall look to the space."
Mosaic collaborates with local event teams to create coordinating fabric panels and screens that enhance party spaces. Whether the fabric is used to conceal portions of a room that are not open to the public, drape a ceiling and tent poles, or separate a cocktail hour space from a main dining area, Mosaic uses innovative fabric treatments to add to the décor. Lit or swagged, these panels can make all the difference. When event professionals work in partnership to develop the concepts of these components, it results in a cohesive energetic backdrop for any affair.

“84 Lumber Lord’s 84th”
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Fanfare and Living
Mosaic’s stunning linens are featured at the party of the century for 84 Lumber’s Joe Hardy at Nemacolin Woodland’s Resort. Featured décor by Mosaic; Luncheon table in party tent; Snowy cabaret setting with vases of amaryllis and tulips in ballroom.
“Under swirls of beads in hallways billowing with white sheers, guests gasped as they wended past cascades of white orchids to the party tent for lunch. Inside the décor became a lumber magnate’s wonderland. Butcher-block tabletops were fitted over red cloths, and riotously red orchids in rectangular wooded centerpieces matched those massed overhead on wooden roofing frames. Tables were overlaid in gold-embroidered midnight sheers and freshly flowered for the sumptuous wine and dine that followed.

"Child's Play "
Tribune-Review
Written by Jean Horne
Excerpt from the article "Hope Takes Flight" in The Tribune-Review, November 8, 2004.
Holy hogwarts, Harry, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood has just gotten bigger and more fun. Saturday's tales of the city brought us to the Grand Opening Gala of the architectural wonderment that's now the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
While the tent was a dreamy white-on-white confection with the fashionables supplying the wattage, the Buhl was an explosion of colors. With gleeful pizzazz, Tim Condron's floral designer, Bill Chisnell, fashioned illuminated globes from white puzzle pieces that floated over glass columns in primary colors. Cloths were cherry red and streamered with ribbons. Smashing.
Led by Susie Perelman, divine in a black strapless number by Oscar, and Tim Komen, the eve was a celebration of CMP's dazzling transformation and a toast to board chair Anne Lewis, even more beautiful in a black Badgley-Mischka with beaded sleeves. An unstoppable force, Anne paved the way for the expansion that put CHP on the map as a major player during her six-year watch.

"Style File: Susie Perelman "
WHIRL
Written by Leslie Hoffman, Photography by Blaine Stiger
The August 2004 issue of Whirl magazine featured an interview with Susie Perelman, the owner and found of Mosaic, Inc. Read the article below.
"The fabric of our lives" may be the slogan of Cotton Inc., but it also sums up the style philosophy of Susie Perelman, fitting for the owner and founder of a linen-rental business. Since starting her Strip District-based company Mosaic, Inc., the petite Sarah Jessica Parker lookalike - with a love for shoes rivaling "Sex and the City's" Carrie - has woven together her unique personal style with that of her business to create a fabric of success. Perelman and Mosaic have dressed events locally, such as May's cutting edge Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy's Spring Hat Luncheon, as well as nationally, always allowing their clients to express their own style while living up to the store's motto, "Your vision, our linens."
Can you explain for us what, exactly, Mosaic, Inc., does?
Strictly speaking, we are a tablecloth renting facility. We rent tablecloths, napkins, aisle runners, and chair covers, for the special event industry. We work both locally in Pittsburgh and throughout the nation.
Why did you decide to start it?
I enjoy and have a background in the field of entertainment and special events; however I wanted to find an industry that allowed me to be creative, but that also would not take time away from my family.
How much does your personal style affect your company?
I think that they're inextricably linked. Style is style whether it's how you lay out a room for an event or how you work your way through life. My style defines me as a person and as a business.
So I hear you've got a great shoe collection.
To make the most impact you can't forget about your shoes and your handbags. The shoes sort of finish the look. The higher the better, the skinnier the heel the better. That's one area where you don't have to stick with the conservative. Two of my favorite designers are Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo.
Where do you buy your shoes?
I get some in Pittsburgh and I get a lot from out of town.
What's your take on the style in Pittsburgh?
I think that every city and every urban environment has everything. It comes back to personal style. You don't have to be decked head-to-heel in designer duds to be stylish. Of course the city is not as urban and sophisticated as Madison Avenue, but it's not about a cookie cutter look, either. This city has a lot of individual flair.
Supply us with one piece of style advice.
Pairing a great pair of jeans, a fun funky top and a great pair of shoes can take you anywhere.
What would you consider your personal style philosophy?
As everyone works their way through complicated lives of business and work, through my business and personal style I try to add color to my life. The fabric of their lives through their own style. That's what makes life interesting and fun and enables you to get through the stressful part of life. The fabric of my life - it's a parallel between my business and the weave of the world. |

"Perfect Outdoor Dining "
WHIRL
Written by Christine Tumpson & Becca Cipriani, Photography by Blaine Stiger
The July 2004 issue of Whirl magazine featured Mosaic's luxurious linens in the article "Perfect Outdoor Dining". Mosaic's linens were teamed up with the floral designs of Tim Condron Florist and the china and glassware of Glassworks.
"On a whim, Whirl asked the area's top designers to form three teams to create their perfect outdoor dining settings. Giving them less than three days to coordinate with their appointed team mebers, and in the height of the social season no less, these talented designers were given just one direction: arrive at the Squirrel hill residence of Audrey and Tim Fisher ready to set up and be photographed . . . ."
"In the Garden on Eden . . . . Susie Perelman of Mosaic Inc. supplied the linens, which are all available for rent. Perelman combined a peppermint stripe in 120-inch round with Apple Green Bengaline in 108-inch round. She topped the stripe and green linens with Pink Chanel in 120-inch round and Sweetheart Paillete custom cloth in 85-inch square. Lime green raw silk napkins and Fig napkin rings pull the rest of the colors together. Custom cushions also available." |
