The Ring:
Personalized wedding bands were common in the 1960’s, engraved or decorated with dedications of love and commitment.  The most popular wedding bands were very simple, enscribed with a message, and marked with several colored stones, each of which held their own separate meaning.  When opting for diamonds, yellow gold bands etched with floral and leaf motif engravings were popular.

The Attire:
Wedding apparel of the decade was as different and distinct as the bride herself.  The era introduced color to the classic white gown.  While some opted for a colored floor length satin dress, fully beaded with iridescent sequins in diamond shape patterns and a daisy wreath headband, others preferred a short chantilly lace wedding dress, go-go boots, pillbox hat with face netting, and three-quarter length gloves.  A bouquet of daisies, wildflowers or chrysanthemums accented with baby’s breath finished off the bride’s ensemble.  Inspiration of the era came from Princess Margaret, who wore a wedding dress designed by Norman Hartnell and made of silk organza.  Let’s not forget the groom of the era, with velvet jacket, bell-bottom pants and beaded headband, perfect attire for exchanging nuptials barefoot in an outdoor garden or field ceremony.

Happenings of the Era:
The 1960’s are characterized with peace, love and excitement.

  • The first debate for a presidential election was televised between Senator John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon.  Kennedy’s wife, Jacqueline Kennedy inspired fashion with pillbox hats and gloves.
  • Popular Hairstyles were The Flip & Beehive.
  • Pantyhose were introduced.
  • Photographers began to offer color photographs of the wedding day.

Party Table Linens:
The 60’s were powered by an assortment of bold colors and funky prints.  Tie-dye colors: pinks, yellows, blues, greens, purples and oranges were commonplace.  From romantic art nouveau and art deco to psychedelic, everything in 1960s made a statement, including the table linens.  Make your own statement by choosing from our far-out linen options.
